ERADICATING POVERTY IN EASTERN UGANDA

Through the CBO model

Introduction

About Us

Mwamba Development Agency (MDA) a regional umbrella organization registered in 2018 by the members of the Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in the Eastern Uganda region with the vision of providing inclusive transformational services to its members in perpetuity. MDA, as the apex is a non-profit making organization registered as a company limited by guarantee with operations in the greater Eastern Uganda clustered in four sub-regions of Busoga, Bukedi, Elgon and Teso comprising of 35 districts (2014 National Population Census) currently with a population of about 10.4 million people.

The apex was formed with a strategic objective of eliminating chronic poverty through consolidating rural development interventions under five pillars of Financial Inclusion, Agribusiness Development, Knowledge and skills, Health and Shelter under one umbrella. This model is to enable effective resource mobilization from the members as a pool and external partners as well as providing governance; management and quality service delivery to the members of the Community Based Organizations to enable them to operate more efficiently on a reliable, long term and sustainable basis.

  2. CBO Members are adequately mobilized and empowered to embrace development programs that contribute to their household and individual transformation.
  3. CBO members participate in other income-generating activities to diversify sources of income from time to time.

How we work

Mwamba works with the CBOs in the implementation of the five development pillars in phases which are critical to an individual household.

Transforming Lives

Through Community Based Organisation  (CBO) Model

Mwamba Implementation Approach

Mwamba Development Agency’s role is to first address mental poverty through training the potential leadership (change agents) of different CBOs and their members about the need to embrace the vision of transformation at household level.

Mamba peruses the Community Based Model (as shown below) where only one Community Based Organisation (CBO) is established at each of the current districts whose membership are small groups of 30-40 people who are involved in diverse kinds of economic activities, agribusiness being predominant. This is illustrated in the diagram
